Zerodha charges: three worked examples
Each example adds up every charge on a round trip (buy and sell). The delivery and intraday examples buy and sell ₹1,00,000 of shares once each. The options example buys premium worth ₹50,000 and sells it for ₹60,000. Amounts are rounded to the nearest paisa and leave out tiny exchange investor-protection levies.
| Charge | Delivery (₹1,00,000 buy and sell) | Intraday (₹1,00,000 buy and sell) | Options (₹50,000 buy, ₹60,000 sell) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brokerage | ₹0.00 | ₹40.00 | ₹40.00 |
| STT | ₹200.00 | ₹25.00 | ₹90.00 |
| Exchange transaction charges | ₹6.14 | ₹6.14 | ₹39.08 |
| SEBI turnover fee | ₹0.20 | ₹0.20 | ₹0.11 |
| Stamp duty | ₹15.00 | ₹3.00 | ₹1.50 |
| GST | ₹1.14 | ₹8.34 | ₹14.25 |
| DP charge on the sell | ₹15.34 | ₹0.00 | ₹0.00 |
| Total charges | ₹237.82 | ₹82.68 | ₹184.95 |
| Total as % of turnover | 0.238% | 0.083% | 0.168% |
Two things stand out. On a delivery trade Zerodha charges no brokerage, so STT is the biggest cost. On a small options trade the flat ₹20 per order is a large share of the total. Profit or loss on the trade itself is not included, and neither is income tax on gains.
